Etiology
Bacteria of various species exist both on the surface of, and within the body. These microbes live in symbiosis with the human organism and constitute the normal microbial flora. The immune system controls the bacteria, which aid in digestion, absorption, and the detoxification processes of the body. These symbionts serve many valuable functions and are indispensable to life itself. Antibiotics attack these nonpathogenic bacteria directly without the assistance of the immune system, thus disrupting the normal, healthy bacterial flora; this ultimately causes further complications of the disease.
