Description
Red Clover is classified as an alternative expectorant and antispasmodic in traditional herb medicine and has enjoyed a wide variety of traditional uses from blood cleanser to degenerative diseases. Today, it is recognized as a treatment for drippy, irritating coughs such as whooping cough and bronchitis.
Did you know? Red Clover is originally from Europe and Asia but has been naturalized to North America and Australia. It continues to be widely cultivated for animal feed and as a nitrogen-fixing crop. Red clover contains many constituents: volatile oils, glycosides and isoflavones, to name a few. The isoflavones are in high concentration and are phytoestrogenic. Isolated isoflavones are now marketed and used in products to help with menopausal problems.
