Indications

An ointment for rheumatism affecting the muscles and joints; neuralgias and sciatica, amputation neuralgias; paralysis due to stroke, facial paralysis. Degenerative processes of the intervertebral discs; osteoarthritis; osteochondritis; muscular aches, sprains, and contusions; inflammatory conditions of the skin; furuncles and carbuncles.

Mode of action

Absorption of the following homeopathic ingredients is increased and facilitated by the unique combination of the essential fatty acids and volatile oils contained in this ointment.

Arnica: Useful in injuries causing an extravasation of blood, improves the resorption of blood. Conditions such as contusions, sprains or strains; the pains following trauma are of a bruised or sore quality. In chronic cases, effective in cases of arthritis and gout.

Belladonna: Effective in all inflammations associated with intense hyperaemia; throbbing or pulsating pain; inflamed area is deep red in colour. General aggravation from motion and pains are ameliorated from pressure.

Calendula: Useful for the treatment of wounds, abrasions, and incisions; topically, is a potent astringent; antiseptic, analgesic, and promotes healing and tissue regeneration.

Camphora: Rheumatic pain between shoulders. Difficult motion. Numbness, tingling and coldness. Cracking in joints. Cramps in calves. Icy cold feet, ache as if sprained.

Dulcamara: Rheumatism and neuralgia which is aggravated from damp, or cold weather; aggravation of pain from change of weather.

Echinacea: Immune stimulant; anti-inflammatory; antimicrobial; promotes healing of the skin; useful for skin conditions such as furuncles and carbuncles.

Hamamelis: Venous hemorrhage; sore, bruised sensation; injuries with bruising or hemorrhage.

Hypericum: Indicated for injuries to the nerves and spine; injury to areas rich in nervous tissue; quality of the pain is sharp and shooting; phantom limb pain.

Millefolium: Hemorrhagic remedy; hemostatic.

Nux vomica: Backache at night; stiffness with tearing pains of the spine, turning in bed is extremely difficult (must rise to turn); muscular cramps and contractions.

Rhus toxicodendron: Effective in conditions including, low back pain, sciatica, arthritis, acute or chronic rheumatism, contusions, and sprains; general aggravation of symptoms from cold and cold wet weather, and from getting wet; amelioration from warm weather, and warm baths.

Non-medicinal ingredients: (C16-C18) Alkyl alcohol, lanolin alcohol, lavender oil, olive oil, petrolatum, rosemary essential oil, scots pine oil.

Suggested Use

Dosage

Adults and children 5 years and older apply ointment over the affected area 2-3 times daily or as directed by a health care practitioner. If needed, the ointment may be applied more often.

Do not apply ointment to mucous membranes. Apply only to uninjured, intact skin.

After application, wash hands thoroughly.

When breastfeeding, do not apply the ointment in the area of the breast.

Contraindications

  • Do not use if hypersensitive to plants of the Anacardiaceae family.
  • Do not use if hypersensitive to arnica or rosemary.
  • Do not use during pregnancy.
  • Do not use in patients with bronchial asthma or whooping cough.

Known adverse reactions

  • Allergic skin reactions or contact dermatitis are possible.
  • Skin and mucous membrane irritation may occur.
  • Bronchospasms may be intensified.

Remedies to be considered

  • The following preparations may be taken internally, in addition to the external application of R30:
  • Rheumatism of joints and muscles, osteoarthritis and osteochondritis: R11, BC-19
  • Neuralgia in the region of the head and/or occiput: R16, R187, BC-12
  • Rheumatism of shoulder and distal upper limbs: R46, BC-19
  • Low back pain in women: R50
  • Lacerated wounds: R55 or topical applications of R94
  • Sciatica: R71, BC-19
  • Osteoarthritis: R73, BC-19
  • Poor blood oxygenation: BIO 91

Clinical experience

  • Not recommended in the treatment of fungal infections or herpetic eruptions (petrolatum base). In these cases, consider R94 diluted 1:10 with water.
  • Additional uses include insect bites, burns, mild abrasions, and chapped lips.
  • Although not a cure, may be used to ameliorate skin conditions while treating on a deeper level.
