Therapeutic actions:
In ancient Greece, it was given to the horses as feed because it was thought to give them a lustrous coat (hippos=horse, phaos=brilliant). Known as the “Holy Fruit of the Himalayas,” sea buckthorn has been cherished by native Tibetans for centuries for its incredible nutritive qualities. Sea buckthorn grows high in the Himalayan region and has been used in Asia over the centuries as an herbal medicine to relieve cough, aid digestion, invigorate blood circulation, and alleviate pain. Today it is reputed for withstanding harsh winters and used as a treatment for flu symptoms. Categorized as an adoptogenic plant, it is an important remedy for flu-like symptoms (after sudden chill). Just like all plants, sea buckthorn is a carrier of light but it excels in this category (chlorophyllian benefits). Symbol of fertile soil, sea buckthorn illuminates the soil (intestinal soil) therefore favouring immunity, physical and mental tone. The intestines insure the balance of the immune, mental and endocrine trio.
It increases resistance and is recommended during the winter months or at the change of seasons (autumn and spring). Helps deal with viral pathologies due to the abundance in vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B9, B12, C, E, P (quercetin, polyphenols), flavonoids and minerals (Ca, Fe, Mg), (Zn, Cu, Co, K which are the most abundant).
With the rose hip (fruit from the wild rose), the sea buckthorn berry is one of the fruits most rich in vitamin C.
It is therefore a big remedy for sudden chill, especially in the winter and to help combat against the lack of light at this time of year.
It helps subjects that are tired at the change of seasons.
It is an anti-infectious that will be used daily for chronically inflamed children with ENT or respiratory problems. Through its invigorating and stimulant action, it improves sight with Vaccinium myrtillus (Bilberry) and protects against sun rays and possesses anti-senescence activity with Quercus robur (Oak).
