Citronella Lemon Bowl Candles

Supplies:
  • 3 lemons
  • 6 wood wicks
  • 14 ounces of soy wax flakes
  • 4 drops lemongrass essential oil
  • 8 drops citronella essential oil
  • ¾ teaspoon dried lemon balm
-Instructions to Make Citronella Lemon Bowl Candles:
Slice each lemon in half and carefully hollow out with a paring knife and spoon to create lemon bowls. Cut wood wicks to size for each lemon bowl and set aside.
-Fill a large saucepan with about 2 inches of water and place it on the stove to heat. Place soy wax flakes in a metal candle pouring pitcher and set inside the large sauce pan, you can also use a mason jar for this. Whisk often and heat until melted using the double broiler method. Remove from heat immediately to avoid wax becoming too hot.
-While cooling, spoon a small amount of melted wax into the center of a prepared lemon bowl. Place a wood wick into the hot wax and hold until stable (about 10 seconds). Repeat for each lemon bowl. Let wax cool to 120°F to 125°F before adding essential oils. Then, add lemongrass and citronella essential oils to the melted wax in your candle pitcher. Slowly swirl or quickly whisk to blend essential oils into the candle wax. Next, carefully pour wax into each lemon bowl, while avoiding the top of the wood wicks. Last, top each citronella lemon bowl candle with an eighth a teaspoon of lemon balm before wax cools. Let stand 30 minutes to 1 hour or until wax is hard and white.
